Architecture and the architectural profession are incredibly diverse. Our alumni can be found designing and constructing the built environment, or working as the strategists behind its economic frameworks. Furthermore, many of our architects act as innovative developers of construction materials and structures, or as urban planners and organizers. Numerous scientific achievements and inventions are also credited to specialists who graduated from our Faculty. Beyond professional expertise, the Faculty provides the ambition and the analytical capacity required to shape the future responsibly.
Throughout our programs, students evolve into creative professionals who understand the ecosystem as a unified whole. They are committed to shaping the built environment, responsive to global shifts, and capable of constant adaptation. By keeping pace with increasingly specialized demands, our graduates are equipped to secure successful and competitive positions in the international market.
We work to foster this personal and professional profile through transparent, well-defined, and rewarding milestones. At our Faculty, we encourage:
The Faculty of Architecture is one of the oldest institutions at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, with a history of architectural education spanning over 150 years. This is where the designers who defined the cityscape of late 19th-century Budapest—such as Imre Steindl, Alajos Hauszmann, and Frigyes Schulek—earned their degrees.
The Faculty’s diversity is further highlighted by alumni such as Ernő Rubik, creator of the Rubik’s Cube, and Gábor Domokos, co-creator of the world-famous “Gömböc.” Our degree has been recognized without restrictions in Europe since 1986 and is accepted virtually everywhere in the world. This rich heritage obligates us to continuously modernize our educational structure, ensuring a unified vision for shaping the built environment while fostering the ability to adapt to rapid changes.
Our goal is for students to experience the joy of student-faculty collaboration and the significance of future-oriented research and creation. Together with our instructors, students participate in a process of growth, finding their personal calling and contributing to the continuous renewal of the profession.
We offer the following study paths:
Integrated (One-Tier) Master’s in Architectural Engineering
The five-year integrated Master’s is one of the Faculty’s most popular programs, providing a diverse, comprehensive, and balanced foundation in architectural engineering. Throughout their studies, students master the architectural, engineering, creative, and scientific theories essential for professional practice. By engaging in practical assignments, they are encouraged to develop complex problem-solving skills and a proactive, creative mindset. In addition to offering opportunities for specialization in various professional fields, the curriculum culminates in a complex design project followed by a final, semester-long diploma thesis. Upon successful completion, graduates are prepared to begin independent architectural activities and are eligible to obtain professional design licenses. Exceptionally talented students may continue their academic journey in our doctoral schools, pursuing either a research-oriented PhD or an architectural arts-focused DLA (Doctor of Liberal Arts) degree.
Master of Science in Architecture
The MSc program at our Faculty begins with a unified core but offers a wide range of diverse specializations focusing on creative work, research, and experimentation. The primary objective of the Master’s program is to build upon the foundations laid during the BSc studies, significantly expanding and supplementing that knowledge to provide students with comprehensive architectural engineering expertise and professional competencies. · Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are qualified to begin independent architectural activities and are eligible to obtain professional design licenses. Exceptionally talented students have the opportunity to further their education in our doctoral schools, pursuing either a PhD or a DLA degree.
