ARCHITECTS AND CHILDREN: INNOVATIVE IDEAS IN BUILT ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION
Budapest BME K 210 2019. 05. 16. from 09:00 – 18:00

We, at the international group of UIA Architecture and Children Work Program, believe that the future quality of our environment will be determined by the children and youth of today, and their ability as citizens to make good decisions will depend on the education they receive, therefore built environment education (BEE) is an important tool to form the future.
We hope to help teachers, architects, parents and students all over the world to achieve effective educational collaboration. Hence, make it it possible to participate effectively in the creation of a better quality of life that is humane, responsible and sustainable. We develop teaching tools, materials, games, activities and other resources for children and young people everywhere.
You can find information of our work and the local organizations at UIA website https://www.architectureandchildren-uia.com
Created in 1999, the Architecture & Children Work Program is a global program within the International Union of Architects (UIA). Its mission is the education of today’s children and youth who will be tomorrow’s decision-makers, inhabitants, and designers of our cities, towns and villages everywhere. Our program help the children become equipped to take an active part in shaping the world they live in. Through practices that embrace heritage and innovation in the creation of communities; providing a healthy and harmonious quality of life for us all.
BEE was first studied in Hungary in the 80ies and since then, there are more and more architects, educators and organizations to use it as a diverse and effective tool. BEE is a reoccurring theme of DLA students of the Doctoral School of Architecture. The conference aims to explore the possibility to install BEE in its architectural complexity and with a project oriented method into public education and to discuss the advantages of such communication for both architects, educators and students.
UIA Architecture and Children Work Program is a network of professional with a deep interest in built environment education (BEE). The Hungarian Association of Architects as a member of UIA has joined the international program in 2018 and delegated Krisztina Somogyi critic of architecture; researcher of visual communication and environmental psychology of ELTE, Eötvös Loránd University, Institute of Psychology; honorary associate professor of BME, Faculty of Architecture. The conference is organized at BME room K210 with the participation of the DLA students of the Doctoral School of Architecture.
